Giving Oahu Something to Smile About

Local dentists provide free electric toothbrushes, support community health

 OAHU (February 27, 2012) – Six Oahu-based dentists will kick off a promotional campaign to encourage residents to “Spring into 2012” with proper dental care for their entire family. Along with a free electric toothbrush giveaway for each family member, these Smile Source^® dentists will be giving back to the community and encouraging health and wellness through sponsorship of the North Shore Triathlon on March 3^rd and Honolulu 5K for Kids on April 29^th.

The promotion is scheduled to run from February 27^th until May 31^st and allows for up to four family members to receive a free Oral-B electric toothbrush upon scheduling a dental appointment. With the rising concern regarding oral health in Hawaii, the goal of the campaign is to convey the importance of maintaining proper oral health. According to a survey conducted by the Dental Health Division of the Hawaii State Department of Health, Hawaiian children have one of the highest rates of cavities in the nation.

“Smile Source is committed to the overall health of Oahu citizens and is taking steps to help ensure all families receive the proper dental care,” says Smile Source administrator, Dr. James Choy. “By providing a free electric toothbrush, we hope to make available the tools necessary to maintain this care. We are also enthusiastic about the opportunity to give back to the community through the North Shore Triathlon and Honolulu 5K for Kids,” he adds.

As residents and business owners in Oahu, the Smile Source dentists find it important to give back to the community in which they live and service while promoting overall health and wellness. The first event, North Shore Triathlon, will take place on Saturday, March 3 at Haleiwa Beach Park and includes a 500 meter swim, 12 mile bike ride and 3 mile run. The Honolulu 5K for Kids is slated for April 29 and will take place in downtown Honolulu. The event includes a 5K race and 1 mile Keiki Fun Run/Walk to support the organization’s mission to provide fitness programs in Hawaii schools and fight childhood obesity.

Caity and her fiancee Pete moved to Hawaii from Rhode Island.  She was born
and raised in Pennsylvania, where she recieved her Bachelors degree in
Communications from West Chester University.  In her spare time, she enjoys
discovering Hawaii, photography, and trying to finally actually see Jack
Johnson.

We are very lucky to have Adrienne heading our hygiene department.  She takes
the lead in helping you with your at-home care, in office treatment, and teams
with Dr. Choy to formulate your optimal comprehensive treatment.  Adrienne is
also laser certified.

Adrienne grew up in Cherry Valley, Illinois.  She graduated from Loyola
University of Chicago with a B.S. and Certificate in Dental Hygiene.  In
Chicago, she met her husband Joel, and moved here to Kailua in 1993.  They have
three children – Brian, Kiera, and Kaley who are all active in sports and
scouting.  She spends her free time with her family and has a special skill of
finding the best deals and coupons.

Pou hails from the “Friendly Isle” of Molokai.  She is Dr. Choy’s second set of
hands at the chair.  Pou will always have that welcoming and calming personality
while assisting the Doctor with your treatment.

Pou recieved her Associates Degree in Dental Assisting from Heald College.  She resides in
Hauula, with her extended family.

Kanani is the voice and face of Aikahi Smile Designs.  She is the cheerful smile that greets you at
the door and on the phone.  Kanani is an expert at customer service, helping you
make your appointments and making your treatment needs a reality.  Hailing from
the proud Kalahiki Ohana, she brings that warm and caring family spirit to our
office every day.

Kanani was born and raised in Kailua and recieved her Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Chapman
University.  She and her husband Peter have one son, Alexander, with another on the way.  If you are ever looking for a place to eat, our resident “foodie”
is the one to ask.

Dr. James Choy was born and raised in Hawaii.  He and his wife, Mina, have
three boys – Logan, Mason and Noah.  Dr. Choy graduated from the Oregon Health
Sciences University School (OHSU) of Dentistry.  He received his undergraduate
degree from the University of Oregon.  He was an instructor of Operative and
Restorative Dentistry at OHSU before returning home to serve his community.   He
is active in the American Dental Association, Honolulu County Dental Society,
Hawaii Dental Forum, and has also trained other Dentists in the Art of Cosmetic
Dentistry.

In his leisure time, Dr. Choy is always with Mina and the Choy Boys.  They
love going to the beach and cheering on the University of Hawaii and University
of Oregon atsporting events.
